Hello everyone. I’m writing again to fill you all in about the final results of TransAction South Dakota’s name change evens over the summer.
We are happy to say that we have helped 30 trans people in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Pierre to change their names and gender markers on legal documents. That’s 30 lives changed in providing them the ability to so something so important to our transitions, yet financially difficult to obtain.
We filled out the required legal forms, handed out checks for court fees, newspaper legal notices, and some of our recipients received checks for a drivers license/state id and birth certificates.
Our remaining grant funds were due to be returned to the grant makers by September of this year. I was able to get a 60 day extension on that, and in that time we completed 8 additional name changes.
We have stopped providing financial assistance as our deadline is very near. However, we will continue to help with legal forms, and any support that we are able to provide.
Also, remember, that TransAction South Dakota, Inc holds monthly transgender support groups, we have this website where you can register, login and use very similarly to Facebook. We are also advocates for equality and justice, we go out in our communities in South Dakota and do sensitivity training and educate others about who we are, why we’re the way we are, and how to conduct themselves when dealing with us. We plan on going to businesses, law enforcement, emergency services, school, and most importantly, continue to lobby for equality in the law making process’ of out state to keep discriminatory laws from being passed.
In closing, I’d like to that each and every one of you for your support, and for allowing us to be an integral part of your journey to becoming your true self.
